Metamorphosis

Honey Wii's-  God can make me new!
The makings of a month long tangible metamorphosis craft made from egg cartons.

As promised here it is- from an egg to a beautiful butterfly.  We will take you through the process as it unfolded in our home.  And then you too can experience this in your home if you so desire.
This was actually a project that was included with Honey Wii's homeschool curriculum - My Father's World.  I chose not to purchase the "deluxe" set with Honey B as in my first full year of homeschooling I didn't need any extras.  We all enjoyed it this year and will more than likely do it again if not before Honey T is in Kindergarten.
We began by sending in our certificate for our 5 caterpillars that would arrive via mail.  We waited not so patiently and they did indeed arrive.
The caterpillars arrived in this cup which contains all they need to get them to chrysalis stage. We waited and watched them grow and grow and grow until they all crawled to the top and hung.  At this point I peeled the paper to which they clung off the lid and pinned to the side of the habitat, as instructed.
And here they sat.  It appeared as though nothing was happening inside their cocoons.  I really wondered if they would ever hatch.
But they did, all five of them
And this is the final product of Honey Wii's craft, though it is difficult to see- the first item is a leaf with little eggs (glitter glue dots), the second is two 3 piece egg cartons glued together, the third was a 6 piece painted egg carton with google eyes and pipe cleaner antennae and the last was a tissue paper butterfly.   Cute

A few days after the butterflies hatched, we set them free outside.
We have seen them more than once flying around the field near our house(or so we think).
